What To Expect
The Journey
Traveling to the Agalta Valley is no easy feat. After a flight to the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa, the Wilderness Team boards a bus for the long ride to the town of Juticalpa, where it will stay overnight. Everyone will need the rest, because the real adventure begins the next day.
Soon after leaving Juticalpa, paved roads give way to the rough and winding mountain tracks that lead to the Agalta Valley. At journey’s end the team will arrive at the Rancho el Paraiso, the wonderful facility that will serve as home for the week. Of course, reaching the ranch doesn’t mark the end of the adventure. In truth, it’s only beginning.
The Stay
Every day in the Agalta Valley is exciting – and every day the Wilderness Team works on a variety of important projects, partnering with local citizens to help improve the quality of life for everyone in the region.
From building schools to completing health care initiatives to teaching commercial skills, the team fills its mornings with worthwhile and much-needed endeavors. In the afternoons, the team spends time touring the valley and assessing additional needs. Every evening, the travelers gather for dinner before breaking off into smaller groups to discuss other ways to be of service to the region’s inhabitants.
At the end of the week, the team boards the bus and travels the entire route back to Tegucigalpa, where everyone will eat at one of the capital’s most popular traditional Honduran restaurants before spending the night in a hotel.
If it sounds like a busy week, that’s because it is. But the work you’ll do to help people who truly need it will make the journey an unforgettable experience.
